Racing Drone Donated to STEM Group

SwellPro, manufacturer of the water-proof Mariner drone and Splash Pro drone, recently joined the CNY Drones list of sponsors with the donation of a Swift 2 Racing Drone and transmitter. The approximately $500 kit features a super-rugged, compact and water-resistant First Person View (FPV) racing class drone. The response from SwellPro comes during CNY Drones’ current solicitation of business and industry for annual sponsorships. As the group continues to receive an increasing number of requests for interactive STEM demonstrations, they hope to garner support to cover drones and other demonstration equipment costs. The distinctive orange colored Swellpro drone and transmitter will be on display at upcoming events including Wings & Wheels at the Masonic Care Community on August 19 and at the New York State Fair’s STEAM Exhibit, August 26 and 27.

SUNY Polytechnic Institute Mechanical Engineering student and volunteer, Ryan Payne, took the new racing drone for a test run at the Drone Invasion MultiGP Drone Race at Gateway Park on Saturday, July 20, 2017. “It’s amazingly stable compared to other drones I’ve tested.  Interesting features include directional LED signals and an intelligent on-screen display.  These features will help provide a more immersive experience for spectators.”

CNY Drones promotes and supports the local education and employment pipeline with their demonstrations, exhibits, mentoring, workshops, races and clinics. CNY Drones hosts a local social media hub and an Advisory Committee of drone enthusiasts, educators, drone manufacturers, sponsors, engineers, government suppliers and local officials.  The group’s Planning Committee meets weekly to discuss program needs and invitations to participate in community events. Students and adults are welcome to become members of the Utica based, CNY Drones MultiGP Racing Chapter and the area’s first Model Aviation Student Club (MASC). Both are free with prior membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). AMA membership is free for those under age 19 and encouraged for all drone owners who can benefit from access to a wealth of information as well as $2.5 Million in insurance coverage.
